April L. Jones-Sellers - Set Decoration Buyer ~IATSE Local 44
With over 30 years in the design world, I’ve honed a unique skill set that makes my role as a Set Decoration Buyer the perfect extension of my interior design background. I now draw upon my extensive education and experience to deliver exceptional results for the set design crew, embracing each new project as both a challenge and a rewarding opportunity to grow.
This role goes far beyond shopping. It’s about understanding the rich history of furniture, managing time and budgets, and knowing precisely where to find those distinct objects that bring a scene to life. I pride myself on being a true team player—offering detailed pickup information for the leadman and set dressers, capturing perfect photos and measurements, and obsessing over every meticulous detail.
What truly excites me is the journey of discovering new neighborhoods and building lasting relationships with set decorators, set dressers, vendors, and prop houses. Every day is an adventure, and I wouldn’t trade my experience for anything. Above all, I believe that a genuine love for the craft is essential.
Take a look at some of my favorite projects below.

Lopez vs. Lopez (Season 1) ~ NBC Television
I worked with the witty and creative Set Decorator, Peter Gurski. He gave me an amazing amount of freedom to co-decorate several sets throughout season 1 of the show. He has a unique process and method to his creation of each set and he is quick to make decisions. Experience, diverse design knowledge, knowing where to shop, research and confidence in your personal design aesthetic prove to be necessities for a successful Set Decorator and Set Decoration Buyer.
Bel-Air (Season 1) ~ Peacock Television
I was fortunate to work with Kristen Petersen and her wonderful family-like team. It was truly an honor and quite the memorable experience, not to mention loads of fun working with her team. Kristen believes in her teams ability to produce desired results based on her guidance, expertise and leadership. Here are a few of the successful sets I co-decorated with the Bel-Air Set Design team.
Winning Time (Season 1)~ HBO
I worked with Set Decorator, Jon Bush. He assigned sets to his team of Buyers and met with us individually to go over our selections for approval. Here are a few of my favorite sets. I'm most proud of the 70's shoe store. It was also the most challenging. Finding pristine shoes from any previous era to decorate an entire shoe store is a task in itself. The challenge was met.
FOREVER (Season 1) - Netflix
Working with this carefully curated crew was quite the unique experience. Mara Brock-Akil has a keen eye for detail and was involved in the design process from concept to completion. She left no detail to chance. I researched and found specifically requested items for this project. Even the individual small details were instrumental in creating the perfect sets.
